Hungarian Cigaja Sheep

This is an old, separate breed existing in several colour varieties. The black headed and footed, white haired variety of Hungarian Cigaja sheep was introduced in the Great Plain of Hungary in the 18th century. Due to its good adaptability it has spreaded quickly, mainly in the southern parts of the country.Cigaja sheep has a very good milking and meat production ability and rears lambs well.  The so called mountain variety of it has got shorter legs and a more compacted body conformation, while the lowland variety has got longer legs and a more elongated body. A part of the rams wear spirally curving horns. Females are hornless. We are developing nucleus stocks of the breed.
